Ukraine is considering diplomatic options for returning the territories seized by Russia, as its military forces are currently insufficient to do so. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the Japanese edition of Kyodo News.

The President noted that the current support from international partners is “insufficient” to achieve all goals. He called on NATO to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance as soon as possible, which could become an additional security guarantee for the country.

Diplomacy as a path to peace
Zelenskyy has acknowledged the difficulty of military return of some occupied territories, including Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014.

“Our army does not have the strength to do this. This is true. We have to find diplomatic solutions,” he said.

At the same time, according to the President, such steps can only be considered if Ukraine is strong enough to avoid repeated Russian aggression.

“A difficult period of war”
The President stressed that the conflict is in a phase that requires endurance and a strategic approach.

“We must ensure that even in the event of diplomatic agreements, Russia will not be able to resume aggression against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.

His words underline the importance of uniting military, political and diplomatic efforts to achieve sustainable peace and restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
