The United States has prepared a new military aid package for Ukraine worth $725 million. According to the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing AP News, it will include anti-drone systems, HIMARS ammunition, and anti-personnel mines that will strengthen the defence capabilities of the Ukrainian army in key areas.

New opportunities for the Ukrainian army

The new package will focus on combating drones, which are increasingly being used by Russia, and providing Ukraine with modern deterrents. US officials, commenting on the aid on condition of anonymity, did not confirm whether the package would include the ATACMS missiles requested by Ukraine with a range of up to 300 km. However, the transfer of these munitions could be a key factor in more effective strikes against targets on enemy territory.

The package will also include anti-personnel mines, which Ukraine uses to create defensive lines and deter the advance of Russian and North Korean units, particularly in border regions.

Continued support for Ukraine

President Joe Biden has confirmed that all funds approved by Congress for military assistance to Ukraine will be used before his term ends on 20 January. As of now, the total amount of US military support in 2024 already exceeds $7.1 billion.

However, the future of this support remains in doubt due to political uncertainty in the US. Former President Donald Trump, who may return to the White House, has promised to “end the conflict quickly”, which is worrying for Kyiv.

NATO membership: the path to peace

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that providing guarantees of NATO membership is an important step to end the active phase of the war. The proposal to extend membership to the territories controlled by Kyiv could be a decisive factor in stabilising the situation.

Ukraine continues to rely on the support of its allies, demonstrating its readiness to defend its independence, even in the most difficult circumstances.
