Israel’s new Defence Minister, Israel Katz, hosted his Argentine counterpart, Dr Luis Alfonso Petri, in Jerusalem to discuss deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The official visit, which was organised by Argentine Ambassador to Israel Axel Vanish and Israeli Ambassador to Argentina Eyal Sela, was an important step in strengthening bilateral defence ties, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Support during the war with Hamas

Katz thanked Argentina for its unwavering support for Israel during the war with Hamas, including its recognition of Israel’s right to self-defence. He proposed a multi-year programme that includes strategic seminars and trainings to develop cooperation in various fields.

Dr Petri conveyed a message from Argentine President Javier Millay reaffirming solidarity with Israel. “This is not only Israel’s struggle, but the free world’s joint fight against terrorism, the defence of civilisation against barbarism,” the Argentine minister stressed.

Combating global threats together

At the meeting with Major General (Reserve) Eyal Zamir, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defence, the parties discussed key threats, including Iran’s destabilising actions in the Middle East and Latin America. Both countries stressed the importance of cooperation to ensure regional stability.

Priority areas of cooperation

During the visit, agreements were reached on joint projects in areas such as cyber defence, drone development, border protection, satellite communications, and government contracts for the supply of light weapons, ammunition, and communications equipment.

These talks confirmed Israel’s and Argentina’s shared commitment to addressing global and regional challenges, laying the groundwork for deepening their strategic defence partnership.
