Ukraine and Norway intensify cooperation in arms production

Норвегія

Ukraine and Norway have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the production of certain types of weapons and discussed equipping new units with armoured vehicles. This was reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

The talks were held between the two countries by First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk and a delegation from Norway led by Colonel Kjell Howan, General Staff of the Norwegian Armed Forces.

Main topics of discussion

The Ukrainian side briefed the partners on the current situation on the frontline, focusing on Russia’s daily massive shelling of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure using attack drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.

Lieutenant General Havryliuk highlighted the critical needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, including strengthening air defence and replenishing missile stockpiles.

The parties also discussed the threat posed by the DPRK’s increased military support for Russia, which supplies not only ammunition and missiles but also increases the number of North Korean troops near Ukraine’s border.

Winter challenges and needs of Ukraine

Havryliuk stressed that the enemy is constantly changing its tactics and will use the winter period to plunge Ukraine into darkness and cold. He called for a consolidated response from partners to the Kremlin’s escalation.

“We must quickly strengthen our air defence capabilities and replenish the stock of missiles for existing systems. The Kremlin’s desire for escalation must be met with a consolidated response from our partners,” Havryliuk said.

Support from Norway

Representatives of the Norwegian delegation confirmed that support for Ukraine is a priority for Norway. They assured of further active assistance within the framework of the Coalitions of Capabilities, stressing the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

This cooperation is another step in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities against the backdrop of growing Russian aggression.
