Serbia is actively negotiating with Russia to extend its natural gas supply contract, which expires in March 2025. According to Bloomberg, Belgrade is seeking to maintain the volume of supplies at the level of the current agreement with Gazprom.
Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vulin stressed that due to “strong relations” with Moscow, the country is in a favourable position to reach agreements in the economic sphere, in particular on the gas contract.
Serbia consumes about 3 billion cubic metres of gas per year, of which about two-thirds is supplied by Gazprom. Although the country is dependent on gas supplies from Russia, Serbia is actively working to diversify its energy sources, including purchasing gas from Azerbaijan and opening a new route for liquefied natural gas through Greece.
Vulin also noted that Serbia is aware of the changes that Russia introduced on 5 December regarding the payment procedure for gas supplies. He added that the country will fulfil all agreements with Russia and is confident that a new contract will be signed in the near future on favourable terms for Serbia.
