In a new phase of support for Ukraine, the White House is bringing to the fore massive military assistance, which includes huge arms shipments and tough sanctions against Russia. This strategic move is gaining momentum shortly before important political changes in the United States. This is reported by Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing The Guardian.
Massive military assistance from the United States
According to information provided by representatives of the US National Security Council, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, and promised to provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of missiles and hundreds of armoured vehicles. These supplies are to arrive by mid-January next year.
Training of new military personnel
The United States is committed to actively supporting Ukraine in training new military personnel by offering to conduct training outside its territory. At the same time, Washington has prepared a $20 billion credit line, which will be secured through assets frozen by the Russian state.
New sanctions against Russia
This assistance is not limited to funding. At the same time, the United States plans to impose new sanctions on Russia to increase pressure on its economy and military efforts, thereby creating conditions for a stronger position for Ukraine in future negotiations that could form the basis for a peaceful settlement.
Possible change in US policy during Trump’s inauguration
These steps by the White House are taking place against the backdrop of preparations for the inauguration of the new US president, which could lead to significant changes in foreign policy strategy. In particular, the team of the newly elected Donald Trump is already developing a peace proposal that includes Ukraine’s renunciation of NATO membership and the possible transfer of some territories to Russia, which signals a fundamental change in US policy towards Ukraine.
Negotiations with the Trump transition team
At the same time, Ukrainian officials, including Yermak and Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova, are actively negotiating with representatives of the Trump transition team to ensure continued support for Ukraine in the international arena. One of the most difficult obstacles was the blockade of the vote on additional $24 billion in aid to Ukraine initiated by House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Further military assistance from the United States
Despite the political difficulties, the Pentagon confirmed that this week Ukraine will receive the largest military aid delivery since April, worth $725 million. This reaffirms the United States’ firm commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and security in its fight against Russian aggression.
