Ukraine continues to actively work on expanding military assistance from Germany and is already achieving tangible results, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeyev told Ukrinform.

Progress in military support
The ambassador noted that the dialogue between the Ukrainian and German leadership is bearing fruit:

“There is good news every day. They are not public, but what the President and the Chancellor talked about on Monday is already being implemented on Wednesday.”

Makeyev stressed that Ukraine remains an important issue for Germany, even as the country enters the election campaign.

Message to German political parties
The Ukrainian diplomat warned German parties against using the topic of Ukraine for populist purposes:

“There is no need to argue over Ukraine or build an election campaign on populist slogans. Support for Ukraine should become a unifying platform for all democratic forces.”

He also noted that intimidation of the public plays into Russia’s hands, and that democratic parties should maintain a constructive approach.

Debate in the Bundestag
The Ambassador commented on the debate on support for Ukraine in the German parliament. Despite the accusations between factions, Makeev stressed that all democratic forces support Ukraine.

“The non-democratic parties were not surprising – their speeches seem to be written in Moscow, although they never admit it.”

The importance of Germany’s support
Germany remains a key partner of Ukraine, and the results of recent negotiations indicate that cooperation between the two countries is deepening.
