The World Bank will allocate $454 million to Ukraine for the development of the healthcare sector. These funds will be used for priority financing under the medical guarantee programme. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

THRIVE project: Reform in a time of war
The funding will be provided as part of the THRIVE project, which aims to reform Ukraine’s healthcare system and improve its efficiency in the face of the ongoing war. According to Shmyhal, the funds will be used to ensure the provision of medical services in critical conditions.

The project is funded by the joint efforts of the Government of Japan, the World Bank and a grant from the URTF (Ukraine Relief and Transformation Fund).

International support for Ukraine
THRIVE is part of a broader programme of international support for Ukraine, which also includes education, transport, energy, agriculture and other key sectors that have been affected by Russian aggression.

Denys Shmyhal quoted:
“This is an important step in ensuring the stable functioning of our healthcare system, which is currently operating in extremely difficult conditions. We are grateful to our international partners for their support, which will help ensure quality medical care for Ukrainians.”

The THRIVE funding will be another element in strengthening Ukraine’s resilience in the face of the challenges posed by the war.
