US President-elect Donald Trump has not sent an invitation to Vladimir Putin to his inauguration on 20 January. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at his daily briefing, EFE reports.

“No, no invitation was sent,” Peskov said, answering journalists’ questions.

This came after the US television channel CBS reported that Trump had probably invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping to the ceremony. According to CBS, although no foreign leader has attended the inauguration of an American president in the last 150 years, Trump has allegedly invited several world leaders, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has clarified that no talks between Putin and Trump are currently planned. The last meeting between the US and Russian presidents took place in June 2019 at the G20 summit in Japan.

Donald Trump, who recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has repeatedly stated that one of his top priorities upon returning to the White House will be to end the war in Ukraine. On Sunday, Trump again called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Ukraine and the start of peace talks, saying that Russian casualties amounted to 600,000 and Ukrainian casualties to 400,000.
