On 13 December, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine, using cruise and ballistic missiles and drones. In response, Poland has put its aviation and ground-based air defence systems on high alert. This was reported by the Polish Operational Command.

Strengthening defence at the border

All available forces, including fighter jets on duty in the airspace, are being deployed. Ground-based air defence and radar surveillance systems are also ready to respond immediately.

“The measures taken are aimed at ensuring security in the areas bordering the threatened areas. We are monitoring the situation and are ready to respond quickly,” the Polish military said.

Particular attention is paid to the protection of the territories bordering the western regions of Ukraine, where Russian strikes were directed.

Targets of Russian attacks: Ukraine’s energy infrastructure

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that the main target of Russian strikes was energy infrastructure. In particular, explosions were heard in and around Kharkiv, some of which were recorded near the town of Chuhuiv. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that the missile strikes hit the suburbs.

Ukraine’s response

The Ukrainian Air Force has confirmed that Russia has used ballistic missiles. An air alert has been declared in the regions, and air defence units are repelling attacks to reduce damage to critical infrastructure.

The strengthening of defence by Poland demonstrates the readiness of Ukraine’s allies to respond quickly to new threats from Russia. It also demonstrates the deep security cooperation between Ukraine and NATO countries.

Such steps are an important signal to the Kremlin that the West is ready to counter aggression at all levels.
