The explosion that took place on 14 December 2024 in the centre of Dnipro claimed the life of one person and injured four others, including two police officers. All the victims were taken to hospital, where doctors are fighting for their lives. This was reported by the Time Ukraine Israel news portal, citing the press service of the National Police of Ukraine.
Chronicle of the event: explosion in the city centre
At 14:45, an explosion occurred near one of the administrative buildings in the central district of Dnipro. Law enforcement officers, explosives experts, forensic experts and other relevant services immediately arrived at the scene. The investigative team began work, and experts are working to establish the circumstances of the tragedy.
According to preliminary reports, the explosion killed one man. Four other people were seriously injured, including two police officers. All of them were hospitalised, and doctors are currently doing everything possible to save their lives.
Detention of a suspect
Within hours of the explosion, law enforcement officers jointly with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a suspect in the terrorist attack. According to the police, the suspect acted on the instructions of Russian special services. The detainee is a 37-year-old local resident who is already in custody.
According to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the detention was carried out under Article 208. Investigative actions are ongoing.
Terrorist act: legal qualification
SBU investigators classified the incident as a terrorist act under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The detainee faces life imprisonment. At present, law enforcement officers are investigating all the details of the incident to establish its causes and the full picture.
Conclusions and reactions
This terrorist attack once again underscores the threat that Ukrainians face in the ongoing war with Russia. The attack in Dnipro is yet another confirmation of Russia’s active attempts to sow terror and fear among the civilian population of Ukraine.
