General Staff: Fiercest fighting continues in Kursk, Pokrovske and Kurakhove sectors

Since the beginning of the day, 138 combat engagements have been registered at the frontline. The largest number of Russian attacks is observed in the Kursk region. Ukrainian defenders repelled 36 attacks, but the fighting continues. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in its operational update as of 16:00 on Wednesday, 18 December.

The situation remains tense in various areas:

  • Kharkiv sector: Hostile attack continues in the area of Vovchansk.
  • Kupyansk sector: Russian forces attacked three times near Petropavlivka and Lozova. Two clashes are ongoing.
  • Liman sector: There were 11 attacks near Hrekivka, Novoyehorivka, Nadiya, Yampolivka and Terny. Five of the attacks are ongoing.
  • Siverskyi sector: Three attacks were repelled, the battle near Verkhnekamianske continues.
  • Chasiv Yar and Bila Hora: The enemy has tried to advance three times, and clashes continue.
  • Toretsk sector: Eight hostilities near Toretsk, Diliyivka and Shcherbynivka.
  • Pokrovske direction: 27 attacks were registered, 19 of which were repelled.
  • Kurakhove direction: Russian forces attacked 14 times near Sontsivka, Kurakhove and Dachne, nine attacks were repelled.
  • Vremivsk sector: 15 assaults near Kostiantynopolske, Velyka Novosilka and Blahodatne, six battles are ongoing.
  • Orikhivske direction: An attack near Novoandriivka was repelled.

The fiercest fighting is taking place in the Kursk region, where the occupiers are trying to break through the defences but are being strongly opposed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ukrainian troops continue to hold positions in all key areas.
