The detention of Samir Bakri, the leader of one of the most dangerous criminal groups in northern Israel, took place immediately after his release from prison. According to the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing Vesty, on 19 December, police took Bakri back into custody, having spent 1.5 years in prison for previous charges of threats and blackmail.

Detention after release

Shortly before Bakri’s release, several members of his gang arrived at the prison in luxury cars, preparing for a loud celebration. Police detained five suspects and seized their communications equipment. Several others were arrested at their homes in Nacereti.

Bakri, considered one of the most notorious criminal leaders in Israel, has been a thunderstorm in the northern region for several years. His organisation is known for racketeering, blackmail, illegal arms and drug trafficking, and attacks on members of rival clans.

Criminal history

Bakri was first detained on 30 August 2023, along with his deputy Mohammed. They were suspected of involvement in a murder at the Megido intersection. Before he was imprisoned, he was wanted for 4 months on charges of violence, racketeering and murder.

The previous arrest was the result of a complex special operation involving police special forces from the Central and Northern Districts. Bakri was then released due to lack of evidence, but was later arrested again for shooting at a candidate for mayor of Naceret.

Thunderstorm in the north of Israel

In recent years, the Bakri group has become synonymous with terror in the north of the country. In August last year, police discovered a 10-metre-long tunnel where members of the gang were hiding during raids. The organisation has systematically threatened businesses, engaged in illegal trade and attacked its competitors.

The police are continuing their investigation in an effort to put an end to the activities of this group, which is causing serious damage to the security of northern Israel.
