Israel, 19 December 2024 – Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir has expressed serious concern about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Hamas on the release of hostages. His remarks followed his visit to the border with the Gaza Strip, where he met with the Nahala group.

Protests against the withdrawal of troops from Netzarim
Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security, said that Israel cannot agree to withdraw its troops from the Netzarim corridor as part of an agreement on the return of hostages. He believes that such a step would pose a serious threat to national security, as it could give Israel’s enemies an important victory and weaken the state’s defence capabilities.
“The plan under discussion calls for a withdrawal from the Netzarim, which would jeopardise Israel’s security by giving our enemies a symbolic and strategic victory. I firmly oppose this, as it would mean surrender to the terrorists,” Ben-Gvir said.
Suspension of fuel supply and resumption of settlement
The Minister of National Security also stressed the need to review humanitarian policy in the context of the agreement with Hamas. In particular, he called for the suspension of fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip, focusing its use exclusively on humanitarian needs. Ben-Gvir noted that rebuilding Israeli settlements in the occupied territories and supporting immigration are important steps to ensure Israel’s security and stability.
“We must act morally, logically and effectively. Immigration to our country, support for local settlements and control of humanitarian aid are important steps to ensure our security and stability in the region,” Ben-Gvir concluded.
