Denmark has announced the 23rd package of military assistance to Ukraine, aimed at strengthening air defence and combat capabilities of the aviation. The total value of the package is DKK 2.1 billion. This initiative includes the transfer of additional CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and financial support for the operation of Ukrainian F-16 fighters. This was reported by the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing the official website of the Danish government.

Air defence is a priority

Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen stressed that it is critically important for Ukraine to protect itself from Russian air strikes, especially as the winter period approaches. “That is why we are prioritising support for air defence and financing the operation of the F-16 fighter jets that Denmark has provided to Ukraine. We are also helping to train Ukrainian pilots and technicians,” the minister said.

Cooperation with Sweden and NATO

In addition, Denmark, together with Sweden, is providing Ukraine with new CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. The country is also increasing its personnel in NATO missions aimed at supporting Ukraine and expanding its participation in the EU military mission.

“Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy system show that the Kremlin will stop at no means in its illegal war. Europe must join forces to strengthen Ukraine’s defence, especially in the area of air defence,” said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

Funding and prospects

The 23rd package of donations is financed through the reallocation of the Ukraine Fund for 2024 and is partially offset by the European Peace Fund. In total, Denmark has pledged to provide military support to Ukraine worth DKK 53 billion in the period 2022-2028. Of this amount, DKK 15 billion remains in reserve for use in 2025-2028.

The new aid package demonstrates Denmark’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s stand against Russian aggression. The transfer of arms and financial assistance is aimed at providing Ukraine with all the necessary resources to effectively defend its territories and population.
