On 19 December, Jerusalem was the scene of a horrific attack that shocked the entire country. A resident of the capital’s eastern neighbourhoods broke into the apartment of a 74-year-old Israeli woman living on Koresh Street and stabbed her several times. Thanks to the quick response of neighbours and medics, she was saved. According to Time Ukraine Israel, citing Vesty, the suspect was quickly found and arrested.
How the events unfolded
At the time of the attack, the victim’s screams attracted the attention of two prosecutor’s office interns who were working nearby. One of them, also a volunteer with the Ikhud-Atsala rescue service, did not hesitate to help. His professional actions helped stabilise the woman’s condition until the ambulance arrived.
Terrorist trail
Initially, the investigation considered the version of a criminal offence. However, it soon became clear that the attack could be terrorist in nature. Shabak, the Israeli security service, was involved in the investigation. The police issued a gag order, which underlines the importance of this case.
Condition of the victim
Doctors at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital, where the woman is being treated, reported that her condition has improved significantly. Doctors are cautiously optimistic, noting that there is currently no threat to her life.
