On the eve of the New Year holidays, tomato prices in Ukraine have once again risen. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, imported greenhouse tomatoes are currently selling for 80-100 UAH per kilogram, depending on the variety, quality and batch size.
Reasons for the price increase
Traders say that the price has risen by an average of 20% over the past week alone. The main factors behind the price increase were:
- The end of the local season. Ukrainian greenhouse plants are no longer making deliveries due to the end of the season.
- Limited import supply. Imported tomatoes do not meet demand, creating a shortage on the market.
Current situation
As of 22 December, greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine cost an average of 12% more than in the same period last year. Despite the price increase, demand for the products remains strong, which gives reason to expect further price increases.
Market forecasts
Market players are confident that prices may rise even further closer to the New Year holidays due to the traditionally high demand for greenhouse vegetables.
For consumers:
Experts advise to choose products carefully and pay attention to quality, as more and more imported tomatoes from different countries appear on the market, which can differ significantly in their characteristics.
