Trump denies rumours of ‘handing over the presidency’ to Musk: “He can’t be president”

In his speech at the Turning Point USA conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Donald Trump dispelled rumours that he had allegedly “handed over” the presidency to Elon Musk. During his speech, the 45th President of the United States said with a smile: “No, he will not be president, I guarantee you that. And I am safe. Do you know why? Because he was not born in this country,” Politico writes.

At the same time, Trump praised Musk as a “great guy” and stressed that rumours of a change of leadership in the country were just another “hoax”. These statements came amidst constant speculation and criticism from the Democratic opposition, which has been trying to use Musk’s influence on Republicans, particularly during the budgetary issues in Congress.

Musk, who actively supports the Republicans, including financial assistance worth more than $260 million for the 2024 election campaign, has repeatedly been the target of political manipulation. Some congressmen have even proposed his candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the future of Mick Johnson, the current speaker, seems uncertain.

Despite this, Trump’s team assured that the president remains the main leader of the Republicans, and all statements about contradictions with Musk are “ridiculous” fabrications. Trump’s campaign manager, Carolyn Levitt, emphasised: “President Trump is the leader of the Republican Party. Period”.

In his speech, Trump also repeatedly emphasised his achievements as president, saying that he had won the “popular vote” and promising to continue to fight “damn ideology”. He also discussed plans to cut taxes and even return the Panama Canal to US control.
