Germany continues to actively support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. In particular, in recent years, the country has provided significant military assistance, including equipment, weapons, and funding for training. According to the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing the German Ministry of Defence, the total amount of military aid is about 28 billion euros.

This assistance is divided into two main areas: the first is supplies from Bundeswehr military depots, and the second is industrial supplies financed by federal funds.

Investments in training and medical care

Germany also actively supports Ukraine in terms of military training and treatment of the wounded. To date, more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Germany, and the cost of these programmes is more than €282 million. In addition, additional funds are being allocated for the treatment of the wounded, although the exact amounts have not yet been made public.

Estimated funding for 2024

The federal government’s funding initiatives for 2024 amount to around €7.1 billion. This includes Germany’s contributions to the European Peace Fund (EPF), which reimburses the costs of military assistance to Ukraine. In 2023, Germany has already received around €31 million from the EPF, and this amount is expected to increase.

In general, Germany not only actively supports Ukraine in its fight against the Russian aggressor, but also does so at the strategic level by providing modern equipment and financing military training. The supply of weapons and equipment worth around €28 billion reflects a sustained support that will continue in the coming years, strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
