The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday announced a successful operation to destroy two large-scale Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip. The operation, aimed at eliminating underground terrorist infrastructure in the central and southern parts of the region, is another step in the fight against the terrorist threat.
Details of the operation
Soldiers of the IDF Southern Brigade, together with the elite Ya’alam unit and engineering teams, discovered and destroyed two tunnels, each about two kilometres long. These underground routes were used by Hamas militants to launch attacks against Israel.
During the operation, the military eliminated a terrorist group that was trying to plant explosives. They also destroyed anti-tank positions and other terrorist infrastructure that posed a threat to the military.
Airstrike in Gaza
Separately, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) conducted a precision airstrike in the al-Furqan area of Gaza. The target was a senior Hamas official identified through the cooperation of the IDF Southern Command and military intelligence.
Measures to protect civilians
The IDF stressed its focus on minimising harm to civilians. The following measures were taken during the operation:
- Use of point weapons to avoid collateral damage.
- Conducting aerial surveillance to fully understand the situation.
- Using detailed intelligence to pinpoint targets.
“Before the attack, all possible measures were taken to reduce the risk to civilians,” the IDF said, emphasising its responsible approach to warfare.
“The IDF will continue to act decisively to dismantle Hamas’s terrorist infrastructure and ensure the safety of Israeli citizens,” the statement said.
These operations have become an important step in weakening Hamas’ combat capabilities and demonstrate Israel’s determination to counter threats from the Gaza Strip.
