On 11 January 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on his Facebook page that the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region had captured two wounded soldiers from North Korea. According to Zelenskyy, this task was extremely difficult, as the Russian and North Korean military usually kill their wounded to avoid evidence of their participation in the war against Ukraine.

“As a rule, Russians and other North Korean military personnel do everything to leave no trace of the country’s participation in the war,” the president said.

Gratitude to the Special Operations Forces and paratroopers

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian military, in particular to the soldiers of the Tactical Group No. 84 of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and paratroopers who carried out a successful operation and captured two wounded North Koreans.

“These two prisoners from North Korea are being provided with the necessary medical care, as well as all other prisoners,” the Head of State stressed.

SBU works with prisoners

Zelenskyy also instructed the SBU to provide journalists with access to the prisoners so that the world could learn the truth about what is happening. The Security Service of Ukraine is currently conducting investigations with two North Korean military officers to obtain important information about their role in the conflict.
