On 12 January, in the evening, Mirjana
Spoljaric-Jegger, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has arrived in Tel Aviv, according to the news portal Newsru.co.il. This visit is the second in the last three months after the resonant event of 7 October and the first arrival of the head of the organisation in December 2023.

During her five-day stay, Mirjana Spoljaric-Egger plans to visit not only Israel, but also the Gaza Strip, as well as Judea and Samaria, to see first-hand the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict. According to the ICRC, she will meet with those directly affected by the conflict, including families of hostages and communities affected by the hostilities.

During his first visit, the reaction to the Red Cross in Israel was mixed, as the local public criticised the organisation for its inability to organise meetings with hostages in Gaza and for problems with the delivery of essential medicines and supplies.

This second visit underscores the seriousness of the ICRC’s intentions to be actively involved in crisis management and to help the most vulnerable populations in the conflict zone. The global community is looking forward to the next steps of Mirjana Spoliaric-Egger and her team, hoping that this visit will be more productive than the previous one.
