Against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities in eastern Ukraine and the deteriorating military and political situation, the Ukrainian leadership is facing serious challenges. According to CNN, the team of future US President Donald Trump expresses support for the idea of a ceasefire, but the situation at the front remains tense.
According to the latest reports, Ukraine is suffering significant losses on the frontline, especially in the Kursk region, where daily fighting and Russian troop advances are reported. Despite international military assistance, including the provision of 30,000 drones and new air defence systems by Germany, Ukrainian troops lack experienced military personnel and resources to stabilise the frontline.
Russian forces continue active shelling and airstrikes, particularly in the area of Pokrovsk and Donetsk region, aimed at seizing key industrial areas. At a meeting of the Contact Group in Germany, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov stressed that the country is focusing on strengthening its defence and being prepared for any changes in relations with its allies, especially with the change of administration in the United States.
The topic of peace talks remains open and complex. According to analysts, Moscow seeks to achieve a complete victory rather than a compromise, while Ukraine is looking for ways to ensure lasting security and a just peace that includes guarantees of protection of its territory.
At this critical time, the international community is paying particular attention to the actions and statements of the incoming US administration, which may affect further developments in the conflict in Ukraine and the global arena.
