Last night, Ukraine was subjected to a massive air attack by Russian attack drones. From 19:00 on Sunday, 19 January, the enemy attacked 141 UAVs, including Iranian Shahed and imitation drones. The attacks came from five directions: Millerovo, Orel, Bryansk, Kursk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
In addition, Russian troops used an Iskander-M ballistic missile, which was fired from the Kursk region at Sumy region.
The Ukrainian Air Force and the Defence Forces effectively countered the attack with the help of aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups and electronic warfare units. As of 08:00 a.m. on 20 January, 93 attack drones were confirmed downed.
Regions under attack
Russian UAVs attacked 13 regions of Ukraine: Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Donetsk.
Another 47 drones that simulated targets lost their location; two of them, according to the Air Force, returned to Russia.
Ukraine continues to build up its capabilities to protect its airspace and requires additional assistance from international partners to strengthen its air defence system.
