President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The main topics discussed were bilateral relations, energy cooperation and assistance to Ukraine.
This was reported by the President’s press service on 22 January. During the meeting, Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan over the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane and the loss of life.
“The evidence from the site of the tragedy is obvious. It is important to put pressure on Russia to force it to tell the truth,” the Ukrainian president stressed.
Ilham Aliyev shared information about the progress of the investigation and the circumstances of the tragedy that were clarified.
The key issues of the meeting included increasing trade between the two countries and strengthening cooperation in the energy sector. Zelenskyy thanked Azerbaijan for its humanitarian aid to Ukraine, in particular:
- support for energy infrastructure;
- implementing rehabilitation programmes for children affected by Russian aggression;
- assistance with humanitarian demining.
They also discussed the participation of Azerbaijani companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
“Azerbaijani investors are already implementing important projects in our country, and Ukraine highly appreciates their willingness to continue this activity,” the President’s Office said.
This meeting was another step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
