US President Donald Trump has expressed his readiness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to end the war in Ukraine. He said this at the World Economic Forum in Davos, noting that the main goal is to save millions of lives, as the war leads to large casualties, Reuters reports.

“This is a bloody slaughter. We have to stop this war,” Trump said, adding that the war has nothing to do with the economy but with human lives.

Trump also told reporters at the White House that he was ready to meet with Putin immediately, believing that each day of delay only brings more casualties.

“From what I’ve heard, Putin wants to see me, and we will meet as soon as we can,” he said. Trump noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also ready to conclude a peace deal to end the war.

Nuclear weapons and denuclearisation

The US president also raised the issue of nuclear arms reduction. Trump believes that Russia and China can support the denuclearisation initiative. He added that President Putin has expressed a positive attitude to the idea of reducing the nuclear arsenal.

“We want to see denuclearisation… I think it will be supported not only by Putin but also by China, and the rest of the world will support us,” Trump said.

Thus, the American leader continues to prioritise diplomatic efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
