Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Daniel Danon, sharply criticised the UN Security Council for its silence on the situation of the Bibas children, who were abducted by Hamas during an attack on 7 October 2023. At that time, four-year-old Ariel and nine-month-old Kfir Bibas, along with their parents, were captured and taken to the Gaza Strip, The Jerusalem Post reports.

“Why didn’t you discuss the situation of children in Israel?” Danon asked the Security Council members. He criticised the organisation for holding meetings about children in Gaza but not paying attention to the suffering of Israeli children affected by terrorism.

“You may have forgotten about little Kfir Bibas, but I promise you, we have not forgotten him,” the ambassador said, showing a picture of Kfir Bibas. Danon also noted that Israel has not yet received any information about the boy’s condition, despite calls to the International Red Cross and the UN to help.

Danon called on the international community to break its silence and act against Hamas, which, in his words, “uses children as human shields”. He stressed that Hamas, not Israel, has turned Gaza into a war zone and is placing its terrorist infrastructure in schools and hospitals.

“Our children, every single one of them, deserve more than your silence. They deserve their lives back,” Danon concluded.
