The US Department of State’s order to suspend foreign aid does not apply to military support for Ukraine. This was reported by the National Security and Defence Council’s Countering Disinformation Centre (CDC) on Saturday, 25 January.
Military support programmes in place
According to Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the CPD, two key programmes that provide military assistance to Ukraine are functioning without changes:
- PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) is a programme that allows the US president to quickly transfer weapons from US arsenals.
- USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative ) is a programme aimed at providing long-term support, including financing the production and purchase of weapons for Ukraine.
“US military assistance to Ukraine continues, in particular under the packages that were approved earlier,” Kovalenko said.
The Anti-Disinformation Action Centre emphasises that the information about the termination of assistance to Ukraine is manipulative and untrue. The United States continues to support Ukraine in countering Russian aggression by providing necessary weapons and other assistance.
