Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will pay an official visit to the White House on 4 February at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. This was announced on Tuesday by the Israeli Prime Minister’s office.
Donald Trump invited Netanyahu as the first foreign leader to visit the White House during his second presidential term. The meeting will be an important step in strengthening the US-Israeli partnership.
Against the backdrop of the announcement of the visit, Trump reiterated his role in reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on 19 January. This was the culmination of long and difficult negotiations. At the same time, the US president proposed a controversial plan to “relocate” Palestinians to more “secure” regions such as Egypt or Jordan. This proposal drew considerable criticism from the international community, including Egypt, Jordan and France.
Netanyahu, in turn, expressed his gratitude to Trump for his efforts to free the Israeli hostages taken by Hamas during the attack on 7 October 2023. He also congratulated the American leader on his re-election, promising a new stage in bilateral relations.
The Israeli Prime Minister noted that the visit to the White House would be a testament to the close cooperation between the two countries, which have repeatedly stressed their mutual support.
