An analysis of the images obtained after the strikes on 8 and 14 January shows significant damage to the oil depot at the Russian Engels-2 airfield in Saratov region as a result of the attacks by the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

According to the UK Ministry of Defence, the first attack on 8 January caused large-scale fires at the fuel and lubricants depot that took several days to extinguish. A second attack on the night of 14 January also resulted in a fire and further damage to the facility’s infrastructure.

According to imagery from 21 January, the strikes destroyed four fuel and lubricant tanks and damaged ten others. The British military review emphasises that these strikes demonstrate Ukraine’s growing ability to accurately target critical Russian infrastructure, an important step in strengthening its defence capabilities.

These attacks are part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to destroy the enemy’s critical infrastructure and weaken its military capabilities.
