On the night of 6 February, the Ukrainian Defence Forces attacked the Primorsko-Akhtarsk military airfield in Russia’s Krasnodar Territory. The facility, which was used to store, prepare and launch Shahed kamikaze drones on the territory of Ukraine, was hit, causing a series of explosions and a large-scale fire. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the military command, the operation was carried out by units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with other components of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The target was confirmed to have been hit, but the exact consequences of the attack are still being clarified.
“This airfield is an operational base for enemy aircraft. Iranian Shahed drones, which the Russian army uses to strike peaceful cities in Ukraine, are stored and prepared for launch. The facility also serves aircraft operating in the districts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions,” the General Staff said.
The Ukrainian military stressed that strikes on critical facilities involved in the war against Ukraine will continue. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to strike enemy infrastructure to reduce the potential for Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory.
The situation at the airfield after the strike remains tense. There has been no official comment from the Russian Ministry of Defence so far.
