The national nuclear power generating company Energoatom exceeded its electricity generation plan in 2024, providing the Ukrainian power system with 1 billion kWh more than planned. This was announced by Acting Chairman of the Board of the company Petro Kotin, the press service of Energoatom reports.
“In 2024, the company generated 53 billion kWh of electricity, which is 2% more than in 2023 and 12% more than in 2022. Thanks to our efficient work, we exceeded our targets, ensuring a stable energy supply to the country,” said Kotin.
Nuclear power keeps Ukraine’s energy system going
According to the CEO of Energoatom, the company continues to operate stably, covering more than 60% of the country’s electricity needs. In addition, the company managed to optimise repair work: the duration of scheduled power unit outages was reduced by 59 days.
“The repair campaign was planned in such a way that all nine power units located in the government-controlled area would operate at full capacity during the cold season. This ensures the stability of the power system during peak load periods,” said Kotin.
Billions in investments in tariff stability and taxes
In 2024, Energoatom allocated UAH 116.3 billion (excluding VAT) of its own funds, which is 58% of the company’s net income, to cover special obligations (PSO) to maintain fixed electricity tariffs for households.
In addition, the company has significantly increased its tax payments: in 2024, it paid UAH 28.8 billion to the budgets of all levels, up 35% year-on-year.
According to Kotin, Energoatom ‘s results in 2024 confirm the efficiency of Ukrainian nuclear power and its key role in the future development of the national energy system.
