Washington, 12 February 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed a new composition of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB). This was reported by the White House press service.
The PIAB is an advisory body that helps the US president assess national security challenges and oversee the activities of the intelligence community. In his statement, Trump emphasised that the PIAB appointees are “highly qualified patriots” who will contribute to the implementation of his “America First” policy and restore “the integrity of the American intelligence community”.
Who is a member of PIAB?
The President appointed 11 new members of the Board, representing a wide range of experience and expertise:
– Devin Gerald Nunesis the chairman of the board, a former Republican congressman known for his criticism of the work of the US intelligence services.
– Scott Gleib
– Amaryllis Fox Kennedyis a former CIA officer.
– Brad Robert Wenstrupis a Republican congressman and Iraq war veteran.
– Wayne Berman isa political strategist and businessman.
– Reince Priebusis a former White House Chief of Staff under Trump.
– Robert O’Brien isa former US National Security Advisor.
– Joshua Lobel
– Sander R. Gerber
– Katie Miller isa former spokesperson for Vice President Mike Pence.
– Jeremy Katz
– Thomas Ollis Hicks Jr.
What does this appointment mean?
The formation of the new PIAB signals a revision of Trump’s intelligence policy, especially against the backdrop of global threats and growing competition between the US, China and Russia.
The board includes loyal Trump allies, including Nunes and O’Brien, who criticised the work of the FBI, CIA and other agencies during Trump’s first term. This may indicate that the White House is seeking to strengthen its control over intelligence and ensure that it is in line with its own agenda.
The PIAB is expected to focus on countering external threats, reforming intelligence, and combating information warfare.
