Romania has seen significant political changes. Ilies Boloian, the head of the Senate, officially took over as interim president of the country after Klaus Iohannis announced his resignation. This was reported by Digi24 TV channel.

Klaus Johannis, who left the stage in front of Kotroczeny Palace to the applause of the presidential administration staff, did so amid a third attempt by opposition parties to remove him from office. A guard of honour saluted him during this momentous occasion.

Ilije Bolojan, who previously led the Senate and was the interim leader of the National Liberal Party, took over the presidency amid political instability. He will act as president until a new head of state is elected.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that last November, the Romanian election process was overshadowed by a scandal. Unexpectedly, candidate Georgescu, known for his scandalous statements about Ukraine, won the first round of elections. However, the Romanian Constitutional Court annulled the results due to Russian interference and cyberattacks, which only added to the uncertainty in the country’s political landscape.

These developments present Romania with major challenges, both internal and external, given the current geopolitical tensions in the region.
