Russia predicts a bilateral “Russian-American track” in negotiations to end the war, and plans to engage Ukraine separately. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Channel One on Thursday, 13 February.

“One way or another, of course, Ukraine will take part in the negotiations. But the United States will be the main partner in this dialogue,” Peskov said.

He also stressed that during a telephone conversation between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, “the legal status of Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not discussed”, nor was the possible participation of European partners in the negotiations.

According to the Kremlin, Europe’s role in this process will depend on its ability to reach an agreement with Washington.

“Europeans will have to talk to Washington if they want to secure a place in this process. But we are well aware that the United States remains our main counterpart, ” Peskov stressed.

Earlier, official Kyiv had repeatedly stressed that it would not accept any peace agreements without its direct involvement and the support of its European partners.
