The Russian attack on the shelter of Unit 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has provoked a sharp reaction from participants in a security conference in Munich. According to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, world leaders are not just “concerned” but truly outraged by Russia’s actions.
Ukraine will provide the US with important information
The Ukrainian side intends to provide its partners in the United States with detailed information about the Russian military’s attack on the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, as well as about the systematic flights of kamikaze drones through the Chornobyl zone. Yermak announced this in his Telegram on Friday, 14 February.
“Today we will give a lot of information to our American partners about Russia’s strike on the Chornobyl NPP, about how they constantly launch drones through the Chornobyl zone, about the threats to the shelter and nuclear safety that they pose,” he wrote.
Yermak stressed that the reaction of international partners is tough:
“The atmosphere right now is that everyone is very angry about this news here in Munich. Not ‘concerned’, as is often the case, but really angry.”
He also recalled that in the 1980s, the whole world helped to eliminate the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster, while today Russia deliberately attacks nuclear facilities:
“In the 80s, the whole world helped the Kremlin to eliminate this tragedy, when Moscow threw unprotected people into radiation, Gorbachev received robots, equipment and scientists. Then the whole world invested in the shelter, and today these Russian idiots have launched a drone at it,” Yermak said.
According to the State Emergency Service, the radiation background in the affected area remains normal at 0.57 μSv/hour. Monitoring is ongoing.
