The number of victims of the terrorist attack that took place in Munich on Thursday has increased: a 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter died as a result of their injuries. This was reported by local police on 18 February, AFP and DPA reported.

The tragedy occurred during a rally organised by the German transport trade union Verdi. A total of 39 people were injured in the attack.

German law enforcement officers identified the attacker as a 24-year-old Afghan citizen named Farhad N., who arrived in Germany in 2016. According to the investigation, the man pleaded guilty and stated that he acted for “religious reasons”. The police also reported that the attacker had probably undergone a process of self-radicalisation.

After his arrest, the Afghan shouted “Allahu Akbar”. At the same time, the German prosecutor’s office noted that he was not a member of any known Islamist group.

His asylum application was previously rejected, but he remained in the country as a “tolerated” resident, working, among other things, as a security guard.

The terrorist attack took place a few hours before the start of the Munich Security Conference, which was attended by world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Vice President J.D. Vance.
