On Monday, 19 February, French President Emmanuel Macron will bring together leaders of major European countries in Paris to discuss European security and the situation in Ukraine. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said this on France Inter radio, Le Figaro reports.

Barro confirmed that the meeting will take place amid an escalating international debate over the future of the war in Ukraine, but did not specify the list of invited leaders. According to Reuters, the summit will be attended by representatives of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain and Denmark, which will speak on behalf of the Baltic and Scandinavian countries.

The summit in Paris will take place after a high-profile statement by US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who said that Europe would not participate in negotiations to end the war. His words caused a wide resonance among European politicians who insist on their role in resolving the conflict.

During the meeting, European leaders are expected to agree on a common position on further support for Ukraine and the EU’s defence policy.
