France does not understand the logic of Donald Trump’s statements suggesting that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is allegedly to blame for Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, government spokeswoman Sophie Primas said, Reuters reports.

“We don’t understand the logic”
“We don’t really understand the logic here,” Primas told reporters, calling Trump’s statements “harsh, contradictory and often incomprehensible.”

The US is negotiating with Russia without allies
France also criticised the US decision not to consult its allies before the talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia. Kyiv and its European partners expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Washington is actually considering a peace deal without Ukraine.

Europe consolidates: meeting in Paris
In the wake of the US statements, French President Emmanuel Macron initiated emergency consultations with European leaders. Among the participants in the discussions are the UK, Italy, Germany, Poland, and Romanian President Iliese Bologna, whom Macron will receive at the Elysee Palace before the talks begin.

Sweden urges not to trust Russia
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson warned that “everyone thinks that Russia wants peace, but this is far from the case”. He called on the EU to keep a sober mind and continue to support Ukraine.
