US President Donald Trump has said that he may renew the rare earth minerals agreement with Ukraine, which Kyiv rejected earlier. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the way US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was received in Ukraine. This was reported by CNN.

According to Trump, the situation with the deal is not yet complete, and he is considering renewing it. At the same time, he noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may not like the lack of agreement.

The US leader criticised the reception of Bessent in Kyiv, who visited Ukraine on 12 February to sign an economic partnership agreement. Trump said that the Ukrainian side allegedly treated the minister “quite rudely” and that Zelenskyy was not even able to meet with him.

“He went there to sign a document and came back empty-handed,” Trump said, adding that Bessent’s trip to Ukraine was long and dangerous.

On 12 February, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent arrived in Kyiv for talks on investments in the extraction of Ukraine’s strategic resources. The Ukrainian side did not sign the agreement, as it did not provide clear security guarantees in the event of the project’s implementation.

The US and Ukraine are expected to continue negotiations on rare earth minerals in the near future.
