Kyiv, Ukraine – Russian propagandists and intelligence services have been instructed by the Kremlin to intensify their information campaign on the eve of the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on its Telegram channel.
Targets of Russia’s information attack
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Kremlin plans to use the anniversary of the invasion to promote so-called “victorious” narratives and increase psychological pressure on Ukrainian society. The main objectives of this campaign:
– fuelling disbelief among Ukrainians about the country’s ability to resist the aggressor
– destabilising the situation inside Ukraine by spreading fake news and provocations
– discrediting Ukraine among partner states that provide critical military assistance
Key narratives of Kremlin propaganda
The DIU has published a list of the main messages that will be promoted by the Russian media on the eve of and after 24 February:
– The West has betrayed Ukraine
– Neither Moscow nor Washington cares about the opinion of Europeans and Ukrainians
– The US and Russia reached an agreement behind Ukraine’s back
– The Ukrainian government is illegitimate
– Ukrainian army is losing at the front
– Corrupt officials in Ukraine steal billions of dollars in US aid
“Peremoha” by 24 February 2025?
The DIU also notes that the Kremlin plans to announce the alleged “victory” in the war by the “round date” – the fourth anniversary of the invasion. It is possible that Russian propaganda will also declare a “victory over NATO”, as the Kremlin has long tried to present the war as a conflict with the Alliance.
The “peaceful” mask of the aggressor
Ukrainian intelligence warns that one of the main objectives of the new propaganda campaign is an attempt to change Russia’s image in the eyes of the international community. The Kremlin will try to play the role of a “constructive party” ready for negotiations, while covering up its status as an aggressor and war criminal.
One of the key goals of the new Kremlin methodologies is to hide the status of an isolated aggressor and create an image of an allegedly peaceful party, the DIU noted.
