Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee has introduced a bill in Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations by 2025. The document proposes to terminate the country’s funding and membership in the UN and all its affiliated bodies, Fox News reports.

“The United Nations has become a platform for tyrants and a place to attack America and its allies,” said Congressman Chip Roy, who will introduce the initiative in the House of Representatives.

The main accusations of the Republicans against the UN:

  • Corruption and inefficiency;
  • Failure to prevent wars, genocides and human rights violations;
  • No impact on global crises, including pandemics.

The bill also prohibits the United States from participating in peace talks under the auspices of the United Nations without Senate approval.

The initiative’s co-sponsors include Republicans Mike Rogers, Eli Crane, Diane Harshbarger, Anna Pauline Luna, Harriet Hageman, Josh Brechin, Thomas Massie, and Marjorie Taylor Green.
