On the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and the European Congress of Ukrainians (ECU) called on world leaders to adhere to fundamental principles in any discussions on war and peace in Ukraine. The appeal is published on the UWC website, Ukrinform reports.

“The future of Ukraine and the entire democratic world depends on the ability to defend justice and freedom,” the statement said.

The UWC and JCU called upon the international community to consider the key principles:

Inviolability of Ukraine’s borders – any recognition of the annexation of Ukrainian territories is unacceptable.
Lasting peace – Ukraine needs reliable security guarantees to prevent a repeat of the Budapest Memorandum situation.
Ukraine’s defence capability – international partners should support the Ukrainian army and defence industry financially and technologically.
Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO is a key element of long-term security.
Russia’s responsibility – Russia must pay reparations for destroyed cities, war victims and other crimes.
International tribunal for Russia – Russia’s military and political leadership must be held criminally responsible for aggression, war crimes and genocide.
Legitimate authorities of Ukraine – only democratically elected president and Verkhovna Rada can represent the position of Ukraine.
Elections after victory – voting is possible only after the war is over and security is restored.
Ukraine and Europe as negotiators – no agreements can be made without Kyiv and Brussels.

“The future of Ukraine is the future of Europe. We call on world leaders to firmly support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, justice and peace!” the statement reads.
