British Prime Minister Keir Starmer invited President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and more than a dozen European leaders to London on 2 March to discuss security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
Bloomberg reports with reference to the office of the British Prime Minister. Invitations were extended to the leaders of Germany, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Romania. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa are also expected to attend.
Among the key topics of the summit is the discussion of possible commitments by European countries to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as the prospects for military support for Kyiv. It is expected that Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron will inform their allies about the results of recent talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington, during which they discussed support for Ukraine in the event of Russia’s violation of a potential peace agreement.
In addition to the general discussion, bilateral talks are planned. The British prime minister will meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The London Summit will be an important event for shaping a long-term strategy of Western support for Ukraine and strengthening security guarantees in Europe.
