Volodymyr Zelenskyy is heading to London to attend a summit organised by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. European leaders will discuss reactions to Donald Trump’s latest statements on the war in Ukraine.
The meeting will be attended by the leaders of Italy, Germany, Poland and other allies of Ukraine. The plane carrying Zelenskyy is due to land at Stansted Airport in London.
The main topic of the talks will be plans for joint defence and security. Keir Starmer confirmed that he had held talks with Zelenskyy and Trump after their conflict at the White House. The British prime minister stressed the UK and Europe’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
The White House briefing on Friday evening ended in a heated argument over US military aid to Ukraine. After that, the signing of the Zelenskyy-Trump minerals deal was cancelled.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Romanian President Ilies Bolohan have all expressed support for Zelenskyy. The summit in London is expected to be an important step in consolidating European support for Ukraine amid growing pressure from the Trump administration.
