French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russia today poses an unprecedented existential threat to Europe, and that the US withdrawal of support for Ukraine would have devastating consequences for global security. This was reported by La Tribune Dimanche.
Macron expressed deep concern about the Kremlin’s activities on European borders and warned that Moscow’s aggression could go far beyond Ukraine.
«Путін обов’язково піде на Молдову і, можливо, далі на Румунію, якщо його не зупинити», – заявив президент Франції.
According to Macron, if the United States agrees to a truce without security guarantees for Ukraine, it will destroy Washington’s ability to deter not only Russia but also China and other authoritarian regimes.
“If the United States retreats, its geostrategic influence will disappear instantly,” the French leader stressed.
Macron stressed that isolating Ukraine or trying to exclude it from the peace process is dangerous and contrary to the interests of the United States itself.
“We all want peace, but a just and lasting peace is impossible without Ukraine’s participation,” he added.
Macron’s statement came amid growing debate over the US role in continuing to assist Ukraine and the future of peace talks, with Paris insisting on a proactive European stance and avoiding scenarios that would open the door to new Russian expansion in the region.
