US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Washington will be ready to resume cooperation when Ukraine is ready to reach peace. He said this during an interview with ABC’s This Week programme.
According to him, the United States supports Kyiv, but the main goal remains to find ways to achieve peace. “When they (Ukraine – ed.) are ready to reach peace, which is obviously the goal of the president (US President Donald Trump – ed.),” Rubio said.
He also noted that Trump is trying to force Russia to the negotiating table. “The only way to end this conflict is when Russian dictator Vladimir Putin agrees to negotiate. And right now, Trump is the only person on Earth who has a chance to do that,” the Secretary of State said.
Rubio stressed that this is not about any preferences for Putin. “This is not about Putin receiving the Nobel Peace Prize or becoming the Humanitarian Association’s Person of the Year,” he said. According to him, the main task of the United States is to find a possible way to end the war, which will ensure that it will never happen again.
“It is time to bring the Russians to the table, if at all possible, and see if there is a way forward that will end this conflict,” the Secretary of State concluded.
