US President Donald Trump has made a decision that could significantly weaken Ukraine’s defence capabilities. According to the Daily Mail, the United States has officially banned the United Kingdom from passing on classified US intelligence to Kyiv, which had previously been marked “Rel UKR” (Releasable to Ukraine).
Key British intelligence agencies, including the GCHQ and the UK Ministry of Defence intelligence units, were subject to the restrictions, as they were actively sharing critical information with Ukraine about Russian troop movements, missile attacks and air threats.
This decision coincided with the freezing of US military aid to Ukraine, which further exacerbated tensions between Washington and London.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has relied on joint intelligence from partner countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Now, according to the Daily Mail, Washington has cancelled Kyiv’s top-level access to data, and the restriction will remain in place until a separate decision is made by the US administration.
In response to these developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that Trump consider a new format of cooperation to reduce tensions and prevent a complete breakdown in US military and intelligence support.
Trump’s decision has already caused concern among Ukraine’s European allies, who fear that restricting access to intelligence will significantly reduce the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to respond quickly to threats and protect civilian infrastructure.
