US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that Washington and Kyiv may soon hold talks on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, the possible place, time and composition of the delegations are already being discussed.
Movement on Ukraine in "very short order," @MikeWaltz47 told us. Asked about US pause in intelligence sharing with Ukraine, he said: "We have taken a step back, and are pausing and reviewing all aspects of this relationship. But I just got off the phone before I walked out here… pic.twitter.com/8cOx7sysq3

The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, confirmed this information, saying that the meeting would take place in the coming days.
“Following President Zelensky’s statement of readiness for talks, there is hope for further progress”, – Waltz said.
US military aid: dependence on negotiations
According to the US adviser, the success of the negotiations depends on the unfreezing of military aid to Ukraine. The day before, it became known that the United States had suspended not only financial support but also the transfer of intelligence to Kyiv.
“Confidence-building measures must be agreed upon, after which President Trump will consider lifting the restrictions,” Waltz said.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Washington could resume aid only if Kyiv takes negotiations seriously.
Will there be a temporary truce?
The US hopes to develop proposals for Russia. Perhaps it is a partial truce proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
This plan provides for a temporary moratorium on:
- missile and air strikes
- maritime operations
- but not to stop the fighting on land.
President Zelenskyy has previously generally supported this idea.
Diplomatic scandal in Washington
On 28 February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the United States to sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of natural resources. However, the meeting at the White House with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance turned into a conflict, and the signing of the document was cancelled.
Trump accused Zelenskyy of being unwilling to compromise for peace.
On 4 March, Trump told Congress that he had received an important message from Zelenskyy. Apparently, this refers to the Ukrainian president’s post on social media, where he reaffirmed his desire for peace and thanked the United States for its support.
What’s next?
The next round of negotiations will be decisive. Time will tell whether it will help Ukraine get unfrozen military support.
