On 12 March, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine, calling on member states to significantly increase and accelerate military assistance, including the supply of weapons and ammunition.
This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
Ukraine should receive more weapons and support
In the resolution, the European Parliament stressed that on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, Europe must act decisively:
– Increase military assistance, including long-range systems, air defence, artillery, electronic warfare and anti-drone capabilities.
– Allocate at least 0.25% of each EU country’s GDP annually to support Ukraine.
– To use satellite intelligence to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
Russia and its allies must end the war
The European Parliament strongly condemned Russia’s aggression and the participation of its allies – Belarus, North Korea and Iran– in the war.
The document calls on Moscow to immediately withdraw all troops from the territory of Ukraine and stop attacks on civilian objects.
Strategic alliance between the EU and Ukraine
The European Parliament expressed deep concern about the change in the US position, including the suspension of military aid and pressure on Ukraine for concessions.
In this regard, the EU is now considered Kyiv’s main strategic ally, and its member states should significantly increase their support for Ukraine.
Peace talks – only with the participation of Ukraine
The EP stressed that any settlement without Ukraine is unacceptable. Any peace talks must include credible security guarantees to prevent further Russian aggression.
What’s next?
The European Parliament has given a clear signal that the EU should take a leading role in military and financial support for Ukraine. The near future will show whether member states will respond to this call.
